About Winter Park Ski Resort

General:
Winter Park Ski Resort is situated on the other side of the Berthoud Pass in a beautiful part of the Colorado Rockies. It's less than an hour and a half from Denver, making it one of the easiest to access. Winter Park Ski Resort is comprised of two ski areas: Winter Park and Mary Jane Mountains.

Terrain:
Mary Jane is the larger of the two mountains and the first you pass on the drive in from Denver, CO. There are fantastic tree runs on the Mary Jane side, rated in the top 10 in the country. The only glades better in the state are at Steamboat. Powder remains in the Mary Jane trees days after a storm.

At the top of Mary Jane you can traverse through gate access terrain to find fresh powder in the Vasquez Cirque. The hike is long but relatively flat. It is a breath-taking trek with beautiful views of the Rockies. It is worth doing once if it is open. It usually doesn't open until late in the season, after the base builds up.

Mary Jane has all the bowl skiing, while Winter Park has all the catwalks. If you are on a snowboard, keep your speed up while riding Winter Park. Plenty of easy and intermediate terrain exist on both mountains.

Village:
The town of Winter Park provides all the necessary ski vacation ammenities and located a few miles from the mountain. There is both a separate mountain village and a downtown Winter Park. The downtown strip is less walk-able and more of a commerical strip that runs a half-mile or so. There are plenty of good places to eat and grab a beer in town.

For an enjoyable side trip in the even, head up to Hot Sulphur Springs, CO (about 45 min drive) to enjoy natural hot mineral springs.

Reasons to Go:
Great trees; Less crowds than Summit County resorts.
